If you’re new to pre-glued lashes, the most important thing to know is that application is much more about technique than pressure. Bonded lashes are intentionally fine, soft and natural-looking, so the gentler you are with them, the easier they are to work with.
Once you understand how to hold your tweezers, how to position the lash and how to press the bond into your natural lashes, the process becomes remarkably straightforward.
BEFORE YOU START
Your natural lashes should be clean and free from oil, as oil can interfere with the pre-glued bond. Avoid applying oily eye creams or skincare close to the lash line before application.
If your natural lashes are very straight, gently curl them first. You can also apply a light layer of mascara and allow it to dry completely. This can be particularly helpful if you have an oily lash line, as mascara creates a clean, dry surface for the pre-glued lash to bond against.
Have your lashes, a mirror and your Non-Stick Tweezers ready before you begin.
STEP 1: HOLD YOUR TWEEZERS LIKE A PENCIL
How you hold your tweezers makes a surprising difference.
Hold them towards the middle, in the same relaxed position you would hold a pencil. This gives you much better control than gripping them tightly in your fist or holding too close to the tip.
Your hand should feel relaxed and your movements small and precise. You don’t need much pressure at any stage of the application.
STEP 2: PICK UP THE LASH GENTLY
Bonded lashes are designed to be exceptionally fine and natural, so treat them accordingly.
Grip the lash gently by the fibres, close to the base, and carefully lift it from the tray. Do not pull, tug or stretch the lash. Stretching can distort the shape of the pre-glued bond and make the lash more difficult to position correctly.
Try not to repeatedly touch the sticky bond with your fingers or tweezers either. The less you interfere with it, the better.
STEP 3: LOOK DOWN INTO YOUR MIRROR
Position your mirror slightly below your face and look down into it. This naturally exposes the underside of your lashes and makes it considerably easier to see where you’re placing the cluster.
You are aiming to position the lash underneath your natural lashes, approximately 1mm away from the wet line. It should never be placed directly onto the skin or wet line.
If you can feel the lash when you blink, it is probably too close. Simply remove it gently and reposition it.
STEP 4: POSITION AND THEN PUSH
This is the part of application that makes the biggest difference.
Don’t simply place the sticky lash against the underside of your natural lashes and expect it to attach securely. Once you have positioned the cluster, gently push it backwards and upwards into your natural lashes.
Think of it as bringing the two sets of lashes together rather than sticking one onto the surface of the other.
The pre-glued base needs good contact with your natural lashes. A gentle backwards press helps the bond sit securely amongst them and creates the seamless finish we’re looking for.
There is no need to press hard. Controlled, delicate pressure is much more effective than force.
STEP 5: BUILD YOUR LASH
If you’re applying clusters, continue placing them across the eye using your chosen lengths. Work methodically and take a moment after each cluster to check the position before moving on.
The clusters should follow the natural curve of your lash line and sit comfortably beside one another. Avoid stretching a cluster to fill a gap; if something isn’t sitting correctly, reposition it rather than trying to force it into shape.
For beginners, it is often easier to work from the outer corner inwards, as this helps establish the shape of the finished lash.
STEP 6: CHECK BEFORE YOU CLAMP
Before securing everything, look straight ahead and check both the appearance and the comfort.
Blink a few times. Nothing should pinch or catch. Look at the lash from the front and slightly from the side to make sure the bases are sitting neatly beneath your natural lashes.
If one cluster looks wrong, now is the time to reposition it. Don’t try to compensate for poor placement by pressing harder.
STEP 7: CLAMP TO SECURE
Once you’re happy with the placement, use your Non-Stick Tweezers to gently clamp the pre-glued lashes and your natural lashes together.
Again, you do not need excessive pressure. A gentle but secure press is enough to bring the bond and your natural lashes together.
Work across the lash line until everything feels secure, then give the lashes a final check.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER
Delicate lashes need delicate hands.
Our fibres are intentionally lightweight and fine because we want them to look like natural eyelashes. Pulling, stretching, twisting or repeatedly handling them can distort both the fibres and the pre-glued bond.
If you’re struggling, don’t apply more pressure. Slow your hands down, loosen your grip on the tweezers and concentrate on positioning the lash correctly before gently pushing it back into your natural lashes.
Most people find that once this particular movement clicks, application suddenly becomes much easier.
AFTER APPLICATION
Keep your lashes dry for the first 24 hours while the pre-glued bond settles. After that, you can shower and wash your face normally, taking care not to rub or repeatedly soak the eye area.
Avoid oils and oil-based skincare around the lashes while wearing them, as oil begins to break down the bond.
When you’re ready to remove your lashes, thoroughly soften the bond with an oil-based cleanser or makeup remover before gently peeling them away. Never pull a dry bonded lash from your natural lashes.
And if your first application takes a little longer than you expected, don’t worry. Applying lashes is a technique, and like most techniques it becomes considerably easier once your hands understand the movement. The aim isn’t to become brilliant at lashes overnight; it’s to learn a few small movements that make getting ready much easier.
