How Our Eyes Change as We Get Older
Let’s answer the question immediately: no, you are not too old to wear false lashes. There is no age at which women stop wanting to feel polished, expressive or like themselves. What often changes isn’t whether we want to wear lashes, but what we expect from them. Heavy strips, excessive volume and fiddly glue may no longer feel right - but that doesn’t mean lashes aren’t for you. It means the wrong lashes aren’t for you.
As we get older, it is completely normal for the area around our eyes to change. The skin may become softer and less firm, the upper eyelid can become more hooded, and the natural crease of the eye may sit differently than it once did. Our lashes can also become finer, lighter or less dense, while some women notice that their eyes feel drier, more watery or sensitive.
These changes do not happen in exactly the same way, or at the same age - for everyone. You may simply find that the makeup and lashes you loved ten years ago no longer sit quite as comfortably or create the effect you want. That does not mean you have to stop wearing them. It simply means it may be time to discover what suits the face and eyes you have now.
For mature or increasingly hooded eyes, very long or densely packed lashes can sometimes hide the eyelid, cast a shadow over the eye or make it appear smaller. A lighter lash with carefully placed length can have the opposite effect, creating definition and lift without overwhelming your features. Shorter styles, flexible lash bases and softly graduated outer corners can be especially flattering - but they are options, not age rules.
This is not about trying to make yourself look younger. It is about adjusting the shape, weight and placement of your lashes so that they work beautifully with you. Just as our personal style evolves over time, our beauty choices can evolve too. Finding a new favourite does not mean losing the version of yourself you once knew; it means getting to know the version of yourself you are now.
The Best Bonded Lashes for Mature Eyes
There is no single lash map that works for every mature eye. Some eyes become more hooded, some carry more weight towards the outer corner, and others simply need a little more definition as the natural lashes become finer. This is why placement matters just as much as the lash itself.
Rather than following a rigid map, look at where your eye would benefit from lift, definition or balance, and place each lash accordingly.
Wing Xtend: For Targeted Lift
Our Black Wing Xtend and Brown Wing Xtend are particularly flattering for mature and hooded eyes because the set contains one wing and two smaller clusters. This gives you much more control over where the lift sits.
The wing does not automatically have to be placed at the very outer edge of the eye. If the skin feels heavier towards the outer corner, try placing the wing slightly before it. This creates lift at the point where the eye needs it without pulling the shape downwards. The two smaller clusters can then be positioned along the inner and middle sections of the lash line to blend the look and add definition.
Choose Black Wing Xtend for a little more contrast and definition, or Brown Wing Xtend for a softer finish. Brown can work beautifully on fair colouring or for anyone who wants the eye to look gently defined rather than heavily made up.
The Natural: For a Completely Personalised Lash Map
The Natural is ideal if you want full control over the finished shape. The individual clusters range from 9mm to 14mm, allowing you to decide how many lashes you need, which lengths suit your eyes and exactly where each one should sit.
You might use the shorter 9mm and 11mm clusters across the inner and middle sections, then introduce a 12mm cluster where you want the eye to lift. If the outer corner naturally turns downwards or is more hooded, you do not have to finish with the longest 14mm length. A shorter cluster at the very edge can often keep the eye looking more open.
The Natural is also a good choice if you have never worn false lashes before or no longer enjoy the weight of a traditional strip lash. You can begin with only a few clusters and add more until the result feels right for you.
ELEVATE: For Soft, Wispy Definition
ELEVATE is a beautiful option for mature hooded eyes that benefit from slightly more presence. The black fibres and subtle wispy volume help define the lash line and open up the eye, while the variation in length prevents the result from looking too solid or heavy.
The collection of 9mm to 14mm clusters allows you to build a soft graduated map or concentrate the longer pieces wherever your eyes need more lift. It creates more impact than The Natural, but still has movement and irregularity, so the finished look feels feminine and flattering rather than overly uniform.
A Flattering Lash Map for Mature or Hooded Eyes
As a simple starting point:
- Use shorter lashes towards the inner corner.
- Add length gradually through the centre or just beyond it.
- Position the point of lift before any heavier or downturned area.
- Return to a slightly shorter length at the very outer corner if longer lashes pull the eye down.
- Leave out any cluster that makes the eye feel crowded - more lashes do not necessarily create more lift.
The most flattering lash map is not determined by your age. It is the one that works with your individual eye shape, feels comfortable and creates the effect you want. Bonded lashes are designed to give you that choice.
